V tomto týždni príde očakávaný dátum pôrodu. Avšak len 5% mamičiek porodí svoje bábätko vo vypočítaný den. Naozaj, ideálny dátum pôrodu je len pomocný dátum na určenie rozmedzia, v ktorom je tehotenstvo donosené. A to je ako sme už spomínali mnohokrát, plus mínus 2 týždne okolo tohto dátumu. Každopádne príchod tvojho bábätka na svet sa blíži (ak sa ešte nenarodilo) a je na to pripravené. Pľúca sú dozreté a bábätko bude po opustení tvojho tela schopné dýchať samo. Bábätko v 40. týždni je v priemere 51cm dlhé a okolo 3400 g (3.4 kg) ťažké. Toto je teda priemerná váha novorodenca. Váha tvojho bábätka sa môže a pravdepodobne aj bude od tejto hodnoty líšiť. Existujú percentilové grafy, ktoré ukazujú normálne rozmedzia váhy, dĺžky, obvodu hlavičky a podobne. Priemerná ideálna váha novorodenca je 50ty percentil. Niektoré z týchto grafov uverejníme v podrubrike bábätko, ktorú začneme pripravovať po dokončení všetkých týždnov tehotenstva. Maternica v 40. týždni je niekde medzi 37 až 40 cm. Pravdepodobne si postrehla pokles bruška spôsobený uložením hlavičky bábatka do panvy. To sa už mohlo stať pred pár týždnami, alebo sa to stane v tomto čase. Mala by si mať nachystané veci do nemocnice, tvoja chvíľa môže prísť kedykoľvek. Pôrod sa ohlási nástupom kontrakcií alebo prasknutím plodovej vody. Mukózova zátka, ktorá doteraz sedela v čipku a izolovala plodové blany od vonkajšieho sveta sa uvoľní. Toto môže byť sprevádzané slabým krvácaním. Každopádne toto sú symptómy začínajúceho pôrodu a treba isť do nemocnice ak ti doktor nepovedal inak. Mnoho pôrodníkov povie svojim pacientkám, aby čakali až kým kontrakcie nie sú pravidelné a približne 7 - 10 minút od seba. Ak si však mama, ktorá už porodila niekoľko detí, alebo ak bol tvoj test na streptokokus pozitívny, treba isť skôr. Niekoľkonásobné rodičky rodia oveľa rýchlejšie ako prvorodičky, preto času je menej. V prípade, že máš pozitívny test na streptokokus skupiny B, je potrebné aby si dostala prvú dávku antibiotík aspon 4 hodiny pred očakávaným pôrodom.
